Supervising Progress
The quality of pastoral care provided by the college is outstanding. The aim to recognise the personal challenges facing 14 to 19 year olds and to provide an excellent pastoral system is fully and successfully achieved.

Each student is assigned to a Director of Studies, whose role is to supervise students’
academic progress, university applications and general welfare. Directors of Studies have light
teaching loads, enabling them to be freely available to students, parents and
subject tutors. Regular individual meetings are held to discuss test results, progress
in class, homework, UCAS applications and reports.
Parents are encouraged to communicate with Directors of
Studies on a regular basis and informal meetings between
parents, students and tutors provide a constructive forum
for assessing progress. Written reports from the subject
tutors and a covering report from the Director of Studies
are sent to parents twice in the Autumn and Spring terms
and once in the Summer term.
Testing and assessment is regular and well-organised. Teachers report the results of tests and assessments on the college’s intranet, and these results are then available to staff for monitoring purposes and parents via their portal. This system is excellent and greatly appreciated by an increasing number of parents, as well as supporting the work of directors of studies effectively. Half-termly appraisal forms covering the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking also support good progress for LDD students.
