Prize Winners 2009
Luke Rowland won The MPW Outstanding Achievement Award. Luke joined MPW from St Paul’s School
to complete the second year of his A level courses in English, History, Italian and Mathematics. He achieved
grades AAAA and won a place to read English at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.
Rosa de Graaf won The Denise Callahan Prize for the best performance in Arts subjects.
Rosa joined MPW from Ibstock Place School for a one-year A level course in Art, History of Art and Photography.
She achieved grades AAA and won an Art Foundation place at Chelsea College of Art and Design.
Kaian Wang and Shaobo Pang shared The Martin Dyson Prize for the best performance in A
level Science subjects.
Kaian joined MPW from China for our two-year A level course in Chemistry, Psychology, Mathematics and History.
He achieved grades AAAB and won a place to read Experimental Psychology at Queen’s College, Oxford. Shaobo joined
MPW from China for our two-year A level course in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Economics. He
achieved grades AAAB, including maximum marks in five of his A level units, and a distinction in the Advanced
Extension Award for Mathematics. Shaobo won a place to read Mathematics at St Hugh’s College, Oxford.
Jiali Zhang and Viet Le shared The Winifred Durnford Prize for the best performance in A
level Science and Social Science subjects.
Jiali joined MPW from China for our two-year A level course in Accounting, Economics, Mathematics and Further
Mathematics. She achieved grades AAAA and won a place to read Mathematics and Economics at University College,
London. Viet joined MPW from Vietnam for our two-year A level course in Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics and
Further Mathematics. He gained grades AAAA, including maximum marks in two Chemistry units, two Economics units
and five Mathematics units and won a place to read Economics at the University of Warwick.
Louise Dillon won The Huw Thomas Prize for the best overall performance in A level Arts
subjects. Louise joined MPW from Beaconsfield High School for our two-year A level course. She achieved grades
AAAA in Classics, English, History and Politics and won a place to read English at the University of Bristol.
Laura Jafarby won The MPW Prize for the best performance by an A level retake student. Laura
joined MPW from Wimbledon High School, where she had achieved grades BCC in English Literature, History and
Biology. She retook units in all three subjects, gaining grades AAA and winning a place to read History at
the University of Nottingham.
Edward Prosser won The Sylvia Trott Prize for Languages. Edward joined MPW from St. Paul’s
School for our two-year A level course. He achieved grades AAA in Spanish, Religious Studies and Politics at
A level, including maximum marks in four Politics units, two Religious studies units and two units Spanish units,
and also gained an A grade in AS level Italian. Edward won a place to read Spanish with Portuguese and European
Studies at the University of Edinburgh.
Tabassum Tawhid won The MPW Prize for the best performance by a student going on to study Medicine.
Tabassum joined MPW from Kendrick School, where she had achieved grades BBB in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
She embarked upon intensive one-term retake courses in all three subjects, gaining grades AAA. Tabassum won a
place to read Medicine at the University of Liverpool.
Jessye Bloomfield and Varitha Techakesari shared The MPW Prize for the best performance by
a lower-sixth student.
Jessye joined MPW from Ibstock Place School and achieved grades AAAA in AS level Art, History of Art,
Photography and Theatre Studies. Varitha joined MPW from Ruamrudee School in Thailand and achieved grade A in
A level Mathematics and grades AAA in AS level Economics, Geography and Psychology.
Alex Healy Evans won The Laura Freeman Prize for best performance at GCSE. Alex took eight
GCSE subjects over one year, achieving grades A*A*A*A*A*A*A*A. He was also awarded the CIFE GCSE Prize for
Outstanding Performance.
