Prize Winners 2007
Prizes for the 2006-07 academic year were awarded at the annual prize-giving evening on 10 December 2007.
This year, the prizes were awarded by our Guest of Honour, Master Chef Gary Rhodes OBE.
Antonia Jolles and Laura Miles shared The Huw Thomas
Prize for the best overall performance in A level Arts subjects.
Antonia joined MPW from Wycombe Abbey School for our
two-year A level course in English, History of Art and Italian.
She achieved grades AAA and won a place to read Italian
at University College, London. Laura transferred to MPW from Prior’s Field School at the
end of Year 12. She then took A levels in Photography,
Psychology and Religious Studies, achieving grades AAA
and winning a place to read Divinity at The University of
Edinburgh.
Rowan Buchanan won The Denise Callahan Prize for the
best performance by a first-time A level student. Rowan
joined MPW from Downe House for our two-year A level
course in Art, English, Mathematics and Physics. She
achieved grades AAAB and won a place to read Liberal
Arts at Columbia University.
Sin Man Chu and Ellen Hughes shared The Winifred
Durnford Prize for the best performance in A level Science
and Social Science subjects. Sin Man joined MPW from Concord College to take A level
Accounting, Economics, Psychology and Mathematics
from scratch in one year. She achieved grades AAAB and
won a place to read Business Management at King’s
College, London. Ellen joined MPW having graduated from the University of
Durham with a degree in English and History. She took A
level Chemistry and AS level Physics from scratch in one
year. She achieved grades AA and won a place to read
Veterinary Medicine at St Edmund’s College, Cambridge.
Bo Wang won The Martin Dyson Science Prize for the best
performance in A level Science subjects. Bo joined MPW
from China for our two-year A level course in Chemistry,
Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. He
achieved grades AAAA and won a place to read
Engineering at Imperial College, London.
Glynis Onwardi won The MPW Prize for the best A level
retake student. Glynis joined MPW from City of London
School for Girls, where she had achieved grades ABB in
Biology, Chemistry and English Literature. She embarked
upon intensive, one-term retake courses in Chemistry and
English, gaining grades AA and winning a place to read
Medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine
and Dentistry.
Oliver Norris won The Sylvia Trott Prize for Languages.
Oliver joined MPW for our one-year course in Ancient
History, French and Latin. He achieved grades AAA and
won a place to read Classical Studies and French at King’s
College, London.
Ying Ying Duan and Lauren Shipton shared The MPW
Prize for the best performance by a lower-sixth student.
Ying Ying joined MPW from China and achieved grade A
in A level Mathematics and grades AAA in AS level
Accounting, Economics and Physics, including maximum
marks in five Mathematics units and two Economics units.
Lauren joined MPW from The Lady Eleanor Holles School
and achieved grade A in A level History and grades AAA in
AS level Biology, Chemistry and Geography, including
maximum marks in four History units and three
Geography units.
Yousuff Ashmawi won The MPW Prize for the best
performance at GCSE. Yousuff joined MPW from
Wellington College and took seven subjects over one year,
achieving grades A*A*A*AAAB.
Duy Anh Dao won The MPW Outstanding Achievement
Award. Duy Anh joined MPW from Viet Nam for our two-year
A level course in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics,
gaining grades AAA. He also achieved an A grade in AS
level Economics and his performance in the Step
Mathematics 1 examination was graded outstanding.
Duy Anh won a place to read Engineering at Churchill
College, Cambridge.
