Prize Winners 2006

Peter Thum-Bonanno won The MPW Outstanding Achievement Award. He transferred to MPW from Westminster School to complete the second year of his A-level courses in Economics, Mathematics, Physics and Further Mathematics. He achieved grades AAAB and won a place to read Engineering at Girton College, Cambridge.

Rob Olford won The Huw Thomas Prize for the best overall performance in A level Arts subjects. He joined MPW from the London Nautical School initially to take his GCSEs. He then progressed into our sixth form and took A levels in English, History and Politics, achieving grades AAA. He was awarded a distinction in the Advanced Extension Award in History and received a commendation from Edexcel for being amongst the top ten highest scoring candidates in the national entry. He won a place to read History at Peterhouse College, Cambridge.

Laura Freeman won The Denise Callahan Prize for the best performance by a first-time A level student in Arts subjects. She joined MPW from St Paul's Girls' School for GCSEs and then progressed to our sixth form, where she took A levels in Art, History of Art and English Literature. She achieved AAA and won a place to read History at Magdalene College, Cambridge.

Farah Alhabshi and Ding-Lei Huang shared The MPW Prize for the best overall performance in A level Social Science and Science subjects.

Farah joined MPW from Bales College to take our two-year A-level course in Accounting, Economics, Law and Mathematics. She achieved AS grades of AAAA, including two maximum unit scores in Law, and went on in the upper sixth to achieve final A level grades of AAA in Accounting, Economics and Maths. She won a place to read Accountancy and Finance at the London School of Economics.

Ding-Lei came to MPW from China to follow our two-year A level course in Accounting, Economics, Mathematics and Physics. She gained grades AAAA, including Mathematics a year early, and won a place to read Economics at University College, London.

Lucy Macfarlane and Clarissa de Pentheny O'Kelly shared The Winifred Durnford Prize for the best performance by a first-time A level student in Science and Social Science subjects.

Lucy joined MPW from Downe House to take an 18-month course in A level Biology, Chemistry, English and French. She achieved grades AAAA and won a place to read Experimental Psychology at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.

Clarissa joined MPW from Atlantic College, where she had been following an International Baccalaureate programme. Over six months she completed A levels in Biology, Chemistry and French and AS level Psychology, gaining grades AAAA and winning a place to read Medicine at Imperial College, London.

Salman Chaudhry won The MPW Prize for best A Level retake student. He joined MPW from Preston Manor High School, where he had gained BBB in A level Chemistry, English Literature and History and a D in AS level Mathematics. He embarked upon an intensive, one-term retake courses in all four subjects, gaining grades AAAA. He won a place to read History at Homerton College, Cambridge.

Kishen Morarji won The Martin Dyson Science Prize. He took our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Religious Studies, achieving grades AAAA at AS level, including full marks in all of his Religious Studies and Psychology units. He then elected in his upper sixth year to take Biology, Chemistry and Religious Studies, achieving grades AAA, once again including full marks in all of his Religious Studies units. He received a commendation from Edexcel for being amongst the top ten candidates in Religious Studies in the national entry and he was also awarded the Richard Smart Prize for achievement by CIFE. He won a place to read Medicine at King's College, London.

Huu Duy Anh Dao and Kapish Narda shared The MPW Prize for the best performance by a lower-sixth student.

Huu Duy Anh joined MPW from Viet Nam to take our two-year A level course in Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics and Physics. At the end of his lower sixth he achieved grades AAA in AS level Chemistry, Economics and Physics and a grade A in the full A level in Mathematics.

Kapish joined MPW from Manau Sthali School in Delhi to take our two-year A-level course in Economics, History, Mathematics, Politics and Sociology. He achieved AS grades of AAAAB, including a total of seven maximum scores across all subjects.

Oliver Cartmell won The MPW Prize for the best performance at GCSE. He joined MPW from The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, taking seven GCSE subjects over one year and achieving four A*s, two As and a B. He then went on to MPW's sixth form to study AS level in Economics, English Literature, History and Photography.

Rachel-Emily Davies won The Sylvia Trott Prize for Languages. She joined MPW from Woldingham School, where she had already achieved grades AAB in Fine Art, Spanish and English Literature. She embarked upon a short retake course to improve her English Literature between September and January and additionally took a new A-level course in History of Art in one year. She achieved grades AA, including maximum scores for her A2 History of Art coursework, and won a place to read Modern and Medieval Languages at New Hall College, Cambridge.

Thuy Nguyen and Wenjing Shi shared The MPW Art Prize.

Thuy joined MPW from Costa Mesa High School in America to study our two-year A-level course in Photography, Business Studies and Art, achieving grades AAB. She won an Art Foundation place at Central St Martins College of Art and Design.

Wenjing joined MPW from China to study our two-year A level course. In her first year she gained grades AAA in AS level Accounting, Economics and Physics as well as a grade A in the full A level in Mathematics. In her upper sixth she went on to complete her A level in Physics, gaining grade B, and to take A level Art and Further Mathematics from scratch in one year, achieving grades AA. She won a place to read Engineering at Imperial College, London.
