Prize Winners 2000

Elsa Gubert won The MPW Prize for the best overall performance in A level Science subjects. Elsa joined MPW for one-year A level courses in September 1999, having previously been educated at the Lycee Charles De Gaulle, London. She achieved grades AAA in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and a pass in the STEP Chemistry examination. Elsa went on to read Medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

Abdul-Halim Saadi won The Winifred Durnford Prize for the best performance in first-time A level Science subjects. Abdul-Halim joined MPW in September 1998, having previously been educated in Singapore. He took two-year A level courses in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, achieving grades AAAB respectively. Abdul-Halim went on to apply for Girton College, Cambridge, for a place to read Mathematics.

Imran Majid and Mark Lanyon shared The Martin Dyson Prize for the best improvement in A level Science subjects. Imran joined MPW in September 1999 from Eastbourne College, where he had obtained grades BBC in Biology, Chemistry and English Literature respectively. He retook Chemistry from September to January and Biology from January to June, and took Psychology as a new subject over one year. He gained grades AAA including full marks in one of his Chemistry modules and went on to read Medicine at the University of Sheffield. Mark Lanyon joined MPW in September 1999 from Westminster School. He took September to January courses in Economics and Mathematics, achieving grades A and B respectively, and then took January to June courses in Physics and Geography, achieving grades AA, including full marks in three of his Geography modules. Mark went on to read Economics at the University of Bristol.

Lois Allison won The MPW Prize for the best performance by a lower-sixth student. Lois joined MPW in September 1999 after taking her GCSEs at Newstead Wood School for Girls. She achieved an A grade in Politics at the end of her lower sixth year. Lois went on to complete her A level courses in English Literature and History of Art in June 2001 and won a place St John’s College, Cambridge for a place to read History of Art.

Verity Bard and Jemima Rooper shared The Denise Callahan prize for the best performance in first-time Arts subjects. Verity joined us in September 1998 after taking her GCSEs at Queensgate School. She took two-year A level courses in Art, English and Geography, achieving grades AAA. She went on to take a gap year before reading Social and Cultural Studies with Film Studies at Nottingham University. Jemima joined MPW in September 1998 after taking her GCSEs at Godolphin and Latimer. She took two-year A level courses in English Literature, Classical Civilisation and Theatre Studies, achieving grades AAA. Jemima went on to pursue a professional acting career.

Sarah Sillow and Esra Kaytaz shared The MPW Prize for the best overall performance in A level Arts and Social Science subjects. Sarah joined MPW in September 1999, having completed a lower sixth year at Godolphin and Latimer. She took one-year A level courses in Biology, Psychology and Religious Studies, achieving grades AAA, and also took AS level Mathematics, achieving grade A. She went on to read Egyptology at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. Esra joined us in January 1998, having previously been educated in Turkey. After completing GCSEs with us in six months, she started her A levels in September 1998. She took French over one year and History and Pure Mathematics over two years, gaining grades AAA. Esra went on to read Archaeology and Anthropology at Keble College, Oxford.

Jeanne Kenneil and Gabrielle Shaw shared The MPW Prize for the best performance by a GCSE student. Jeanne joined us in September 1998 from Camden Hill Girls School and took two-year GCSE courses. She achieved 3 A*s in English Language, English Literature and Information Studies and 4 As in Art, Humanities and Double Award Combined Science. She went on to complete her A Levels at MPW before going on to read Anthropology at Edinburgh University. Gabrielle joined us in September 1999 from Hasmonean High School for Girls and took one-year GCSE courses. She achieved 3 A*s in English Language, English Literature, Religious Studies 4 As in Biology, French., History and Information Studies. Gabrielle joined the sixth form of Henrietta Barnett.
