International Students

MPW accepts a small number of international students each year. There is a fixed number of places available for international students.

Approximately 50 students for whom English is an additional language (EAL) are admitted each year. Most of these have additional lessons to bring them up to the required university entrance standard in English.
ISI Inspection Report 2007, section 1.4

Four programmes are offered:

  • Two-year A level courses for students who want to apply to the top UK universities. Students normally study 4 AS courses and English (IELTS) in year 1, and 3 A2 courses and English (IELTS) in year 2.
  • 18-month A level courses for students who want to apply to the top UK universities. Students normally study 3 AS/A2 courses and English (IELTS) over the period of the course, with an extra AS if applicable.
  • One-year A level courses for students who want to transfer from other examination systems or who want to improve on previous A level grades in order to apply to the top UK universities.
  • One-year Art pre-foundation courses for students who wish to study Art, Design, Fashion or Photography at university in the UK. Students study Fine Art, Ceramics, Photography and English (IELTS) for one year, and also receive specialist help on portfolio and interview preparation.

International students who have not already studied GCSE or the equivalent in the UK or in an International School where the teaching is in English will be required to sit an entrance test. All students must also attend an interview. Interviews normally take place in the UK, but under certain circumstances students from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Latvia and other selected countries can be interviewed in their own countries. Our schedule of overseas interviews can be found through this link.

International students whose first language is not English will normally only be considered if they fulfill the following requirements:

  • English Language at a level equivalent to 5.0 at IELTS - all applicants will be required to sit an English Language test unless they have already achieved the required score at IELTS.
  • Excellent school record across a range of subjects - a certified English language transcript of the student’s school marks for the two most recent years will be required at the interview stage.
  • An understanding of the UK education system and clear university and career plans. These will be discussed at the interview.

Students who wish to apply or to find out more about MPW and our programmes, accommodation and welfare arrangements should complete the International Enquiry Form.
