Fees
The tuition fee at MPW depends on the number and level of the courses being studied. We do not
have a fixed fee per year group and, indeed, many students at MPW combine courses across
year groups. The basic fee for full-time students ranges between £5,607 and £6,985 per term at A level and
between £6,248 and £6,985 per term at GCSE.
For a full set of our current fees, please contact the Admissions Officer.
Scholarships and Bursaries
Each year MPW awards a number of scholarships and bursaries to help fund the fees of gifted and
talented students who are likely to gain particular benefit from our academic provision and the more
general opportunities the college has to offer. In turn we expect award recipients not only to
contribute to MPW’s reputation for academic success but also to participate in broader aspects of
college life. There are two types of financial award available: scholarships and bursaries.
Scholarships are awarded entirely on academic merit whereas bursaries also take account of
financial status and are therefore means-tested in accordance with guidelines issued by the
Independent Schools’ Bursars’ Association.
Type and nature of awards available
- Academic scholarships: awarded to students who are able to demonstrate excellent general all
round academic ability or outstanding ability in a particular subject area.
- Creative and performing arts scholarships: awarded to students who are able to demonstrate
excellence in art, drama or music.
- The Woodward scholarship: named in honour of Robert Woodward, one of the founders of MPW, and
awarded to a student studying English Literature as one of their subjects at A level.
- Bursaries: awarded to students of high academic ability who would not be able to attend the
college without financial assistance.
Each year MPW sets a budget for academic awards based on anticipated fee income. The value of
bursaries and scholarships ranges from 10-50% of tuition fees, with the exception of the Woodward
Scholarship which is a full fees award. Scholarships are typically valid for the entire duration
of the programme for which a student is enrolled.
Siblings
Where two siblings are studying full time at the college at the same time as each other there is a
5% discount on the fees for the younger student.
Assessment criteria for Scholarships
The assessment criteria will vary according to the type of award for which a student is being
considered. Typically the following evidence will be considered:
- Academic history
- Performance in the college’s scholarship exam
- Reports from previous school(s) and other relevant organisations
- Performance at interview
- Portfolio (creative and performing arts awards only)
Eligibility and application procedure
Any student applying for a programme of one year’s duration or more is eligible to apply for an
award. Applications for awards should be made by the last day of the Summer term for the following
September and only under exceptional circumstances will it be possible to be considered for an
award after this date. Sittings of the scholarship exam are held in March and June.
Parents/guardians of students wishing to be considered for an award should notify the Admissions
Officer, who will arrange for an application form to made available to them prior to their initial
interview at the college.
