University Placements

We have considerable experience of the difficulties faced by students who are applying for some of the more competitive courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Law. We liaise with admissions tutors both before and after the publication of examination results and we have developed strong links with many of the university departments attended by MPW students in the past.

The college has a strong record of university entrance success. Students receive extensive advice and guidance from directors of studies and heads of department, who also oversee their application. Specialist programmes are provided for Oxbridge entrance and for those seeking to join medical, dental and veterinary courses ...

We hold a preliminary open meeting for lower-sixth students and their parents at the beginning of the Summer term. For those joining us in the upper sixth or retaking A levels, discussions about university entrance and application procedures begin in earnest during the initial student interview. Students are encouraged to make full use of the opportunity for interview practice provided at MPW, including the use of video facilities where appropriate.

As part of the application process, our students attend a series of seminars, each targeted at a particular degree course and led by admissions tutors and other professionals in the field. Students who are aiming for Art School follow a portfolio preparation programme.

The college offers specialist preparation for UKCAT, BMAT, LNAT and other university entrance tests.

The majority of our students gain places at the top universities. Between 2005 and 2009, 995 students gained unversity places, 64% of which were at Russell Group universities, the universities of Oxford, Cambridge and London, or at medical/dental/veterinary schools. Of these, 69 students gained places at medical, dental or veterinary schools; and 30 gained places at Oxford or Cambridge. In addition to the students who were placed through UCAS, a further 74 students were successful in gaining places on Art Foundation courses, over 90% of which were at the University of the Arts London.
