Mander Portman Woodward
MPW is one of the country's best known independent sixth-form college groups with colleges
in London, Birmingham and Cambridge.
We offer full-time GCSE courses, AS courses and A2 courses over a very wide range of subjects and
with no restrictions on subject combinations. We also offer intensive A level and GCSE retake courses
and revision courses over Easter.
Characterising all our first-time courses and retake courses is an absolute maximum of eight
students within any one class and a strong emphasis on exam technique and exam practice. Our Easter
Revision courses offer the same focus on exam technique and exam practice with a maximum group size
of nine.
At MPW the social atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Students are treated as adults but there is
a strict work ethic when it comes to punctuality and submission of work. A broad range of
extracurricular activities is available for full-time students joining us at Year 10 or Year 12.
Note for prospective A level retake students starting September 2010: This is the second
consecutive year in which university places have been very tightly squeezed. A level retakes can be
a genuinely game-changing option for some students who are caught without a place in Clearing.
Although competitive universities may well raise their standard offers or, in some cases, not consider
retake students, deserving students who are advised carefully about their re-applications still can
and do meet with success, even for the most competitive courses at the most competitive universities.
For example, retake students may be encouraged to learn that in the 2010 UCAS cycle, of the 230 A level
retake students at MPW that applied for at least one Russell Group university, 202 were offered a
place by at least one Russell Group university.
