Winter Retakes
These September to January courses are how MPW started. They're still some of our favourite ones to teach even though they represent a small fraction of our A level work now!
Winter retake courses at GCSE are a dying breed. The exam boards offer very few subjects these days. In general, you’re limited to Maths and English. Otherwise, look at full GCSE courses or see January to June on the right.
At A level, there are lots more subjects on offer under Curriculum 2000 than there used to be prior to C2K. This is because all the exam boards now have to offer most of their AS and A2 units in both January and June. At MPW we offer courses for AS only, A2 only, AS and A2 combined or even single-unit resits at either level. You need to check with the individual colleges for up-to-date availability.
These courses are fast! You need to have a good grade to start with. You definitely need to have passed at first attempt except under very unusual circumstances. Whole groups of eight students sometimes all have Bs or Cs at first attempt, especially in the Medical Stream.

January to June
First introduced 20 years ago as an alternative to the traditional Winter Retakes, Jan-June has transformed the way in which many retake students plan the resit year.
Two weeks longer than Sep-Jan, the Jan-June courses allow you to resit any subject offered in the June examinations.
For the increasing number of you determined to resit all three of your A level subjects in order to gain entry to more competitive universities Jan-June also allows you to concentrate on no more than two subjects at any one time. A particularly popular combination involves one subject taken over the full year (this could even be a new subject), one subject from September to January and the third subject from January to June.
Jan-June is also appropriate if you are a retake student who was planning to take a Gap year anyway, but do not wish to extricate yourself from travelling or work commitments booked during the Autumn.
